It's easy to become discouraged, especially as an adult beginner.
Keep your perspective and remember, at one time, tying your shoes was difficult (do kids even learn that anymore?).
Don't let the newness of this wonderful new adventure turn you away from what's to come.
Find patience.
Learn the details, one by one, building until the newness disappears into an ease that creates lovely music.
You can start, if you wish, with this set of free solos..
Your beginning music doesn't need to be complex, it needs to be lovely. Look here for more ideas of music you can use as a new student of the harp.
Other titles associated with this hymn tune: "Praise the Lord! Ye Heavens Adore Him", "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus", "Jesus, What a Friend to Sinners", "In Humility, Our Savior (Latter-day Saint)", "I Will Sing the Wondrous Story", "Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken" and "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling". There's truly a text for every season of the liturgical year.
This "not too difficult" version has more than one time through the tune, so you can choose how much to learn at first and build on the rest later.

Many of my adult students learn and perform the easiest version of this Skill Building Solo in time for Christmas after 5 - 7 months of lessons. The next year they learn the longer version, doubling the length of their solo piece of repertoire.

Here's an easy version of Were You There? with the hymn played twice, and Still Waters (from Accessible Solos) as the interlude between the two verses.
